Connectus Health Midwifery Q&A

Curious about what to expect if you choose Connectus Health Midwifery for your pregnancy journey? Our team has some answers below!

Q: What can patients expect during their pregnancy if they choose Connectus Health Midwifery?

A:
Expect high-quality care that YOU participate in. We want you to ask questions, understand our recommendations, and share this joyful, yet stressful time with us! At Connectus we know that each birthing person is unique and brings their own perspectives, lived experiences, and desires into planning for their birth. We seek to honor that and empower you to be an active participant in planning for birth and beyond.

Our group of providers all share the same mission & top priority - providing you with evidence-based care while respecting your intuition in knowing what is right for you and your baby.

Throughout your pregnancy, you will get a chance to meet us all so we can get to know each other, and there will be a familiar face supporting you through your birth. You will receive culturally competent care that's individually tailored to your needs. No matter how your pregnancy and birth may unfold, we will be with you every step of the way with education, options, and support. We know that each birthing person who walks through our doors is so powerful and capable; we want you to go forward knowing that, too!

Q: What does the first visit look like for a patient?

A:
The first visit is usually the longest, where we will go over your medical and personal history, complete a pregnancy physical exam, draw routine labs, and get oriented to the prenatal care schedule, how we communicate with you, and how you can reach us. We also talk through optional labs we offer, when sonograms will be scheduled, and important signs and symptoms to report, as well as pregnancy nutrition, exercise, and reducing exposures to harmful things during pregnancy.

After that, we see patients in person or via telehealth about every four weeks, and as the pregnancy progresses, those visits get more frequent, becoming weekly during the last month for most pregnancies. You may see a different midwife or our fabulous NP for each visit. We often ask the same questions at the beginning of each visit: How are you? Anything you want to talk about? How's the baby? Any concerning symptoms?

Q: What sets Connectus Health Midwifery apart from traditional pregnancy care?

A: Our patients and our midwives! Though we have a routine, standard labs to draw and components of health assessment and health counseling we do at each visit, what really makes us different is that we are approaching the WHOLE family and whole person. This means not only focusing on pregnancy, but aiming for a healthy mind with a positive mood and resilient thoughts, healthy bodies with preventative care, good nutrition, vaccines, and screenings for problems. We want to do everything we can to promote healthy babies and healthy communities by making decisions and giving culturally helpful care that shows respect to individuals and communities. We also have enough time to spend with patients - things rarely feel rushed.
